Pre-Law
Peter’s first degree is from the University of British Columbia. He earned an Engineering Physics degree, and graduated with honours in 1989. He worked as a design engineer for a research and development company focused on building MEG (magnetoencephalography) devices, which are used to measure the magnetic signals arising from neurons firing in the brain to map neural activity. The technique combines use of superconductors, electronics, cryogenics, and data processing.
Law
Peter graduated from the University of Toronto law school, graduating in 1995. During law school, he volunteered at DLS, downtown legal services clinic. He summered at a Toronto IP boutique firm, and then spent a year at full service law firm in Seoul Korea, and later worked for Samsung in the Office of the General Counsel.
After graduating from law school, he spent the next 28 years at a Bay St. Law firm, where he rose through the ranks from articling student, associate and then 20 years as a partner. He held a number of management positions including department head of the Toronto intellectual property group, and as co-chair of the IP litigation national practice group. During this time, Peter gained experience and expertise in litigation, particularly in patents, trademarks, copyright and industrial designs. He has also had a significant general litigation practice, particularly in product liability for automobiles.
Volunteer Work
His volunteer work includes six years on the board of FACL Ontario (Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers), his last three years included roles as Vice-President and President. As part of this role, he served on t he CBA: Key Equality associations on the Diversity on the Bench working group, the Law Society of Ontario Equity Advisory Group, and Law Society of Ontario Treasurer’s Liaison Group.
He has also served on the IPIC Litigation committee, and the AIPPI Canada Program committee and education committee. He has served on the board of the Korean Legal Clinic, and was a founding director of the Korean Canadian Lawyers Association.
He has spent many years coaching hockey for the North York Knights and soccer for the North York Cosmos.
